Yolande was born in the heartland of France’s beauty industry, where porcelain and perfume were everywhere — and simply the local craft. With the additional influence of her mother who had grown up in western Africa, Yolande naturally embraced travel and art at an early age, moving to Paris to attend La Sorbonne, from where she graduated with a degree in Arts and Communications. Before she could complete her master, a stretch of jobs in the United States — assisting fashion stylists, working on interior, home fashion, still life and showroom productions — quickly turned into a new passion and direction for her future: still life props and set design for fashion accessories.

Yolande’s process begins with a narrative through which she creates a universe around the product or subject of the photograph. She likes to experiment with materials and occasionally makes her own props and backgrounds. Her vision is often a dreamy, playful poetic juxtaposition of elements, drawing on her love of surrealistic cinematic imagery, as well as her constant absorption of inspiration from her travels, art, and love of films. The ultimate rush, of course, is collaboration — contributing her intuitive sensibility as well as hard-earned skill to generate a concept, compose an image, and co-direct the team’s vision through fruition.

Yolande Garnier is currently based in New York.

Yolande has collaborated on projects for major brands including Louis Vuitton, Ferragamo, Coach, Kate Spade, J-Crew, Uniqlo, Saks Fifth Avenue, Theory and Reed Krakoff. Her work has been featured in magazines such as W magazine, WSJ Magazine, Details, Travel & Leisure, Departure etc.
